Past NumbersPlaying FL Pick 4
Florida's 'Pick' games all work in a similar way. You select the numbers that are required from a range of 0 to 9, either on a Florida Lottery playslip or by asking a retailer for a Quick Pick. The next step is to choose a play type from the options below:
- Straight - Predict four numbers in the exact order you think they will appear. Every number has to be correct in every position.
- Box - To win a Box play, you just need all four of your numbers to be drawn and the order does not matter. For example, if you pick 1234, you would still win if the numbers were 4321.
- Straight/Box - This type of play is a wager on your numbers being selected in an exact order or in any order. You win the full prize if they appear in the order you specified, or just the Box portion of the payout if they are drawn in a different order.
- Combo - Every possible combination of your selected numbers is entered as a separate Straight.
- Pair - You can play a Front Pair, Mid Pair or Back Pair and try to match just two numbers in the correct order. A Front Pair relates to the first two numbers, a Mid Pair to the second and third numbers, and a Back Pair to the third and fourth.
If you play a Box, Straight/Box or Combo, your wager will be referred to a 4-Way, 6-Way, 12-Way or 24-Way, depending on the combination of numbers selected. Here are the differences between each one.
Number of Ways | Description | Example | Winning Combinations |
---|---|---|---|
4-Way | One unique number and three the same | 1112 | 1112, 1121, 1211, 2111 |
6-Way | Two sets of pairs | 3344 | 3344, 3434, 3443, 4334, 4343, 4433 |
12-Way | Two unique numbers and one pair | 5677 | 5677, 5767, 5766, 6577, 6757, 6775, 7567, 7576, 7657, 7675, 7756, 7765 |
24-Way | Four different numbers | 8901 | 8901, 8910, 8019, 8091, 8190, 8109, 9801, 9810, 9108, 9180, 9018, 9081, 0189, 0198, 0819, 0891, 0918, 0981, 1890, 1809, 1908, 1980, 1098, 1098 |
Once you've picked your play type, decide whether to pay $0.50 or $1. All Straight/Box plays are a fixed $1, with $0.50 going on each half of the wager, while a Combo costs between $2 and $24 in total (depending on the play amount and the combination of numbers played).
You can play up to 14 consecutive days. You just need to decide whether to enter the Midday draw, Evening draw, or both, then indicate how many days in a row you will be playing.
Add the Fireball extra if you want to get more chances to win. Ticket sales stop 10 minutes before each drawing - 1:20pm for the Midday draw and 9:35pm for the Evening draw.
Fireball
To play Fireball you just need to select the option on your playslip. It doubles the cost of a play, but gives you a far better chance of winning. At the end of each drawing, a fifth number between 0 and 9 is also selected - the Fireball.
You can replace any of the four drawn numbers with the Fireball to make up winning combinations. For example, if you play 2468 as a Straight and the winning numbers are 1460, you have only matched three out of four. This would not normally give you a prize, but if the Fireball is an 8, you can switch this in for the 0 and you would be a winner.
Prizes and Odds
Pick 4 offers prizes of up to $5,000. The amount you can win always depends on your play type and the amount you have paid. Some play types - Straights and Combos - offer the biggest payouts, while others such as Boxes and Pairs have better odds.
Check out the following table to see how much you can win for each play type, along with the odds. You can also see what you would win with Fireball.
