Past NumbersPlaying FL Pick 5
To play Pick 5, you must choose five numbers between 0 and 9. Each of the numbers is selected from a separate field, so the same digit can appear multiple times in a draw. If you would prefer not to pick your own numbers, let the terminal randomly generate them for you by getting a Quick Pick.
You have three options for how you want to try and match the winning numbers. The play types available are as follows:
- Straight - To win, all five of the numbers you pick must be exactly the same as the numbers drawn, with each one in the correct position.
- Box - As long as the five numbers you choose all appear in the draw, you win the associated prize. They can be selected in any order. For example, you would win with the selection 12345 if the numbers drawn were 54321.
- Straight/Box - Half of the play goes on a Straight and half on a Box. If your selected numbers appear in that exact order, you win both parts of the prize. If they are drawn in a different order, you still get a payout for winning the Box portion of the wager.
If you play a Box or Straight/Box, the combination of numbers you play also has a big impact on the odds and what prizes you can win. For example, you have a far better chance of winning if all five of your numbers are different as these can be arranged 120 different ways. If four of your numbers are the same, for instance 11112, this can only be ordered five ways (11112, 11121, 11211, 12111 and 21111). Here's more about the different ways you can structure a Box or Straight/Box.

A Straight/Box play is a fixed $1, but for Straight and Box plays you can decide whether to wager $0.50 or $1. Choose whether to enter the Midday draw, the Evening draw, or both, and play your numbers in up to 14 consecutive days.
Your final decision is whether to add the Fireball to your play. This doubles the cost, but improves your chances of winning. The Fireball is an extra number between 0 and 9 which can be used to replace any of the five main digits to create winning combinations. For example, if you play the numbers 12345 as a Straight and the winning numbers are 12340, this would be a loss in the base game. However, if the Fireball is a 5, you can swap this in for the 0 to give you a win.
You can replace any of the four drawn numbers with the Fireball to make up winning combinations. For example, if you play 2468 as a Straight and the winning numbers are 1460, you have only matched three out of four. This would not normally give you a prize, but if the Fireball is an 8, you can switch this in for the 0 and you would be a winner.
Ticket sales stop 12 minutes before a drawing - at 1:18pm for the Midday draw and 9:33pm for the Evening draw.
Prizes and Odds
The following table shows the payouts you can win if you play Pick 5, along with the odds for each play type. The amount you can win depends entirely on how you play and the amount you wager.
The number of other winners does not make a difference to the value of a Pick 5 prize, as all the payouts are fixed. Instead, the Florida Lottery has established a $7 million liability for each five-digit number. If sales for any particular number combination are so high that the prize payouts would total $7 million, tickets for that number will stop being available.
